Context and Objectives

The analysis of gender statistics in Burkina Faso shows low participation of women in the active workforce. Indeed, the activity rate is 36.5% for women and 82.5% for men. In urban areas, 65.6% of men are active compared to only 26.8% of women. In rural areas, 38.6% of women are active compared to 86.5% of men. Specifically, women are more limited to activities with low time budgets, which does not allow them to effectively invest in profitable and better-paid production activities.

This indicates that in Burkina Faso, where 67% of the population is under 25 years old, the problem of unemployment and underemployment among young people is acute, with the lack of professional opportunities risking compromising the political and economic stability of the country.

It is to continue supporting Burkina Faso’s efforts in its fight against poverty that the program has been developed and implemented since 2019, aiming to contribute to the socio-economic empowerment of women and young girls.

Strategy

The main issue remains the persistence of multidimensional poverty and gender disparities and inequalities, with a low level of socio-economic empowerment of the female gender.

Program Objectives

This program aims to:

  • Develop profitable projects based on promising sectors across the entire value chain and their implementation by women and young girls;
  • Support women and young girls in developing sustainable and resilient economic activities through better access to productive resources, inclusive finance, and adequate know-how;
  • Mobilize technical, material, and financial resources to achieve the socio-economic inclusion of young girls and women through the operationalization of this program.

Project Activities

To achieve these objectives, several activities will be implemented, including:

  • Identifying, supporting, and building the capacity of our target group,
  • Conducting studies, providing beneficiaries with adapted kits,
  • Creating credit lines in targeted areas and integrated service and advisory support centers in targeted communes,
  • Supporting the operationalization of the national socio-economic inclusion program for women and young girls
